"As a musician, I am so excited to be involved with Sustainable Waves and Green Mountain. Anytime I can do something positive for the environment, I'm always ready to jump in. By making our tours carbon neutral, we embrace alternative, renewable energy sources and a cleaner, healthier future for our children. I'm down with the "green" for sure.

G. Love, frontman of the band G Love and Special Sauce

"I am extremely impressed," says Lolla Kingpin - and longtime alt-energy advocate - Perry Farrell, "not only by the power source, but by the sound system as well. It seems that they have hand-built the cabinets and the entire sound system themselves to run without fail. They lowered the ohms down to 60, so that they aren't drawing power too fast, and but let me tell you, it packs a wallop! The party never needs to end"

Case Studies:

N9NE Group

Sustainable Waves has been working closely with Green Mountain Energy to help Las Vegas based N9NE Group go carbon neutral in 2008. The N9NE Group, a Las Vegas-based restaurant and nightclub company, is going above and beyond reducing, reusing, and recycling by partnering with BeGreen, a division of Green Mountain Energy, the nation's leading retail provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions. The N9NE Group is offsetting 100 percent of the total calculated carbon dioxide emissions associated with its annual electricity, refrigerant, and natural gas use in 2007 and 2008 for six of its venues at the Palms Casino Resort. These carbon offsets have the same environmental impact as taking more than 350 cars off the road annually, planting more than 19,000 trees, or recycling more than 10.3 million aluminum cans.

Under the leadership of co-owner Jenna Morton, a self-described "granola," this alliance is the N9NE Group's most aggressive initiative to date towards a better environment. A combination of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and Forest Sequestration Offsets will render N9NE Steakhouse, Nove Italiano, Rain Nightclub, ghostbar, MOON Nightclub, and the Playboy Club carbon neutral.

"We live on this earth. It is the place we all call home," states Jenna. "I'm proud of the efforts we've made thus far, but carbon neutral doesn't cut it anymore. We are reducing our impact on the front end. Our goal is to make going 'negative' positive."

Jenna is also dedicated to numerous other causes as Director of Community Relations for the N9NE Group. She actively supports DIFFA's (Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS) Style Council, After School All-Stars, Keep Memory Alive, the ONE Campaign, League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Clean Energy Coalition, and Conservation International, among others.

The Vans Warped Tour

For the last two summer tours, Sustainable Waves has been a staging partner for the Vans Warped Tour. Currently, the fully mobile and automated Armadillo Stage travels from city to city with the tour, providing a solar powered sound and staging experience for Warped Tour fans.

Each year, the Warped Tour, sponsored by the skateboarding shoe manufacturer Vans, continues to expand its Earth-friendly status. Along with on-site eco initiatives for concert-goers, the tour is a tree-free and uses 100% post consumer utensils, paper plates and cups. Biodiesel is also used to power all the generators, big-rigs and buses.

We are happy to providing the Warped Tour with a carbon-reduction solution and to be part of their eco initiatives, says Mark McLarry, co-founder of Sustainable Waves.

g-love

G. Love and Special Sauce

G. Love and Special Sauce understands that there is an emissions footprint associated with their tours, including their tour bus and air travel and the electricity used to power their concerts. That is why they joined “Eco-Tunes” and offset the emissions produced during their winter 2007 tour.

By using Renewable Energy Credits from Green Mountain Energy Company, G. Love and Special Sauce offset about 185,000 pounds of CO2 while touring this winter. To put this in perspective, that is equivalent to not driving your car over 205,000 miles or recycling over 450,000 aluminum cans. It would take over 11,000 trees more than a year to sequester that much carbon dioxide and has the same environmental impact of taking about 16 cars off the road for one year.

G. Love and Special Sauce also rolled from city to city in a carbon neutral bus that was offset with renewable energy credits from Green Mountain Energy Company. Each show G. Love and Special Sauce played was 100% carbon neutral and offset using renewable energy credits. Renewable energy comes from sources like wind, solar and bio-energy which are naturally replenishing and virtually inexhaustible.

SxSW

Partners Green Mountain Energy and Sustainable Waves worked with SXSW organizers this year to offset 100% of the footprint associated with the SXSW event. Neal Turley of Sustainable Waves told Pollstar the group purchased wind energy in Texas to offset "all the carbon emissions from not only the on-site event - but also all the different SXSW offices that are located around the world, employee travel, plane flight and everything else."

With Eco-Tunes, the companies offer a variety of services including green staging and sound solutions for tours, he explained, as well as the ability to record and manufacture albums in alternative energy-powered studios and factories." What we're trying to do is offer the services on the back end so that an artist can be aware of their carbon footprint and do something about that without having to be a preacher on stage," Turley said.

The Echo Project

The Echo Project October 12 - 14, 2007

The Echo Project, along with Sustainable Waves and Rivers Alive, is about more then just the music, it's about making positive changes in the way each and every person affects the Earth. What better way to get people thinking, changing and of course rockin' then to clean up The Echo Project's very own backyard? Three weeks before the festival kicks off, The Echo Project and partners will summon thousands of dedicated volunteers to dredge the infamous Chattahoochee River in an effort to clean the waterway. Having already taken water samples of the river, continued monitoring will measure our success throughout the life of The Echo Project.

Using the latest trends and technologies in the energy industry, we are committed to utilizing alternative fuel sources to power The Echo Project. We seek to maximize efficiency with energy sources the earth provides us, ultimately moving toward a goal of turning waste into power and creating a sustainable music experience. With an understanding of our footprint's effect on the surrounding environment, we will be very
specific and focused on the following items:

* Energy Usage
* Waste Management
* Habitat Restoration

Artists attending The Echo Project include: The Killers, The Flaming Lips, Thievery Corporation, Phil Lesh and Friends, The Roots, Stephen Marley, Moe, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Michael Franti and Spearhead and many more.

New Belgium Brewery

For the third year in a row, Sustainable Waves has been a staging partner with New Belgium Brewery’s Tour de Fat. Currently, the fully mobile and automated Longhorn Stage travels with them, providing a solar-powered event to the tour’s attendees, who anticipate an eco-friendly experience.

The owners of the New Belgium Brewery based out of Fort Collins, Colorado, hold an annual bicycle rally in numerous cities dedicated to promoting bicycle use and to raise money for local charities.

The owners of the brewery have always been concerned about the environment and seek out new ways to be energy efficient and socially responsible. Some efforts they take include Green House Gas Emissions through wind energy, healthy watersheds, green building with expansion, and the three “R’s”- reduce, reuse and recycle at the brewery and during the tour

San Diego Film Festival September 27 -30, 2007

San Diego Film Festival (SDFF) is a competitive four-day fest where urban edge and perfect-weather escapism meet. Held blocks from the ocean in the Gaslamp Quarter— San Diego's premier downtown entertainment district-- SDFF celebrates its sixth anniversary Sept. 27 – 30, 2007. Founded by a filmmaker, SDFF offers a fresh take on film premieres with wide-ranging programming— from American and international features to thought-proving documentaries, short films and music videos, in addition to tracks celebrating Native American and women filmmakers.

The carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) created by the electricity used to power the Pacific Theatres Gaslamp will be 100% offset using renewable energy credits, thanks to a donation from Green Mountain Energy Company and Sustainable Waves. Green Mountain Energy Company and Sustainable waves are pleased to offer San Diego Film Festival attendees the opportunity to “green up” their movie experience by purchasing a “Be Green Movie Ticket.” When you purchase a Be Green Movie Ticket for $2.00, we will provide you with 250 kWh of green-e certified renewable energy certificates to offset approximately 341 pounds of CO2. Offsetting 341 lbs of CO2 with renewable energy credits is like... not driving your car about 379 miles.

Virgin Festival

Virgin Festival by Virgin Mobile

Sustainable Waves contracted its solar trailer to the Virgin Festival this year to provide solar power to various components in need of electricity throughout the event. The trailer carries a 1.8 kw solar system. An appearance at the festival’s Green Spot on Sunday captured Sir Richard Branson, chairman of festival sponsor Virgin Group and actress/activist Daryl Hannah in front of Sustainable Waves’ mobile solar panel. They spoke of environmental concerns and the numerous ways the promoters and their partners were making the festival as green as possible, including things like the use of bio-diesel and solar power, carbon off-setting, mass transit solutions and composting food waste at local farms.

A spin-off of Britain’s hugely popular concert, the second annual Virgin Festival took place on August 5-6, 2007, at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Group teamed with Daryl Hannah and event greening experts, to attempt the goal of a 'near zero waste’ festival.

Festival performances included The Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Velvet Revolver, Amy Winehouse, Ben Harper and many more.

Sector Nine

STS9

STS9 has made a positive impact on our environment by offsetting 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) created during our fall 2006 tour to make it carbon neutral.

Carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas (GHG), is widely recognized as one of the primary contributors to global climate change. Driving our tour bus, the band’s airline travel and the electricity used to power our concerts created approximately 63 metric tons of CO2 during this tour.

The band used wind energy credits from Green Mountain Energy Company to offset the carbon emissions from its fall 2006 tour. To put this in perspective, that is like not driving your car over 154,000 miles or recycling over 341,000 aluminum cans.

Perpetual Groove

Perpetual Groove

Perpetual Groove has partnered with Tree Sound Studios, Sustainable Waves, and Green Mountain Energy Company to help blaze a trail in the fight against environmental threats like Global Warming. LIVELOVEDIE, the band’s latest album was produced entirely with renewable energy with the help of Tree Sound Studios, Sustainable Waves, and Green Mountain Energy Company. All PGroove Netix tickets are printed on hemp/flax recycled paper. Fans who purchase tickets directly from Perpetual Groove will have the option to purchase Eco-Tune’s “Be Green Ticket”. This gives the fans the option to purchase renewable energy credits to help offset the emissions expelled by traveling to the show.

Michael Franti

Michael Franti

The carbon dioxide emissions created by powering the Michael Franti and Spearhead show at Stubb’s March 3, 2007 were offset by renewable energy provided by Green Mountain Energy. The Austin performance offset the 4,400 pounds of CO2 used to power Franti’s Stubb’s performance.

Tree Sound Studios

Tree Sound Studios

Atlanta’s largest and most unique recording facility, Tree Sound Studios is a blend of vision, precision, and the desire to make great music. Their client list is filled with musical giants including REM, the Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews and the Indigo Girls.

By working with Green Mountain Energy Company to purchase renewable energy credits, Tree Sound Studios covered 100% of their electricity usage for 2006 and beyond. The 2006 purchase alone helps avoid over 196,000 pounds of CO2, as much as not driving over 218,000 miles. To put this in perspective, it’s had the impact of planting about 11,800 trees or recycling over 484,000 aluminum cans.

This solution also allows Tree Sound Studios to pass some of the benefits of choosing renewable energy on to their clients, enabling musicians to produce albums in a carbon neutral way. In 2007, any album produced at their Norcross, GA facility will be made with renewable energy.

Camp Bisco
